Motswako celebrates its tenth season in style!

I had the rare privilege of spending two days and one night of luxury, lusciousness and laughter at the Westcliff Hotel last week courtesy of Mostwako, SABC2 and Old Mutual. Motswako, the second most popular talk show on SABC celebrated its tenth season with a diva-licious bash to end all bashes.

First, I must let you in on a secret. About a month ago I, along with a bevy of black female celebs, auditioned for the position of presenter on Mostwako. I had a fantastic time, which is never ever the case with auditions. Carol Bower Productions is so classy that they even gave us party packs courtesy of Avon after we answered their cattle call. As I walked out of the studio, I told the panel, who was still giggling long after the cameras had stopped rolling, that if they don’t hire me they should hire Busi Mahlaba because she is fabulous.

Fast-forward to the 26th of March and I find myself...Read More

SABC 2 Drawing the Line

Firstly, I must say sorry to all of you dedicated fans who tuned in for two solid weeks only to find that Drawing the Line Season 2 had failed to air on Sunday at 12:30pm on SABC 2 as promised. The SABC did a really good job with publicity this time around, but then it didn’t screen the show. Oh well, you can’t have it all! The show is back on air now, and it is cooking!

This season of the show really ups the ante and promises to deliver much more than the previous one. For those of you who are unacquainted with the show, Drawing the Line is a debate show that fuses theatresports with debates on contentious contemporary issues and audience participation in an effort to inspire the nation to openly engage with issues of morality in a safe, fun, and dynamic way.

I play the host and the Devil’s Advocate, the person who juggles all of the elements of the show in order to keep the discussion...Read More

Northern Cape Writers Festival

Everyone complains about government. Complaining is one of the unifying factors of the South African experience.

We can bitch with the best of them! It is very important to criticize that which you love, especially when you see your beloved losing his or her way. Our government is no different.

There are brief glimmering moments where government creates magic. Those moments deserve to be celebrated as much as mediocrity, inefficiency and anti-intellectualism must be attacked. Criticism will never be heard unless it is coming from a place of compassion. Any poet worthy of the label will tell you that.

The Northern Cape Writers Festival was a creative intellectual’s wet dream. This is not an overstatement. From the 12th to the 15th of March, my spirit was emersed in the brilliance of Dr. Don Mattera, Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa, Prof. Keorapetse Kgositsile, Phillippa Yaa De Villiers, Napo...Read More

Youth Ambassador for the IEC

In February of 2009, I was delighted and honoured at having been appointed by the Independent Electoral Commission as one of their Youth Ambassadors for 2009.

It is the first time that the IEC has decided to use young people to spread the message about the importance of voting as a fundamental cornerstone of democracy. Our task is to encourage young people to actively participate in what are certainly the most scintillating elections we’ve had in a long time.

The IEC reports that the youth have registered to vote in record numbers, but the biggest challenge is to ensure that we make it to the polls on the 22nd of April. History shows that the young people have a tendency of not rocking up on voting day.

What I find very exciting about the initiative is the IEC’s decision to include young people who are employed by the IEC as Ambassadors alongside young public figures. Sharing...Read More
